Topic: Epitaxy of Silicene in 2D Heterostructures

Silicene is the silicon-based member of the class of the Xenes, namely single-element two-dimensional (2D) crystals. A Post-Doc fellow will be involved in the growth of silicene through interface engineering by means of molecular beam epitaxy (MBE); characterization of silicene with in situ diagnosticsand ex situ optical spectroscopies; processing and transfer of silicene into device susbtrate targeting Schotky diodes and memristive cells. The activity is within the national PRIN 2022 grant  n. 2022XMYF5E «Intercalation assisted silicene/MoS2heterostructures for two-dimensional nanojunctions (ITER)» under the supervision of Dr. Alessandro Molle within the general Xene research line in the Xene/2Dmaterials team at the CNR-IMM and with project partner Politecnico di Milano.

Goal: identification of intercalated silicene and testing of MoS2/silicene nanojunctions

Skills: managing molecular beam epitaxy equipmentunder ultra-high vacuum; in situ characterization by means of some of the following technicques:  LEED, RHEED, AES, XPS, Raman spectroscopy; sexpertisewith STM and AFM; expertise with Raman/Photoluminescence spectrosocpy.

Length:  18 months

Net salary: 1615 €/month for 12 months per year

Workplace: CNR-IMM Agrate Unit, via C. Olivetti 2, 20864 Agrate Brianza, Italy  (inside ST Microelectronics Agrate headquarter, nearby Milan)

Funding details: MUR PRIN 2022 grant n. 2022XMYF5E «Intercalation assisted silicene/MoS2heterostructures for two-dimensional nanojunctions (ITER)» in partnership with Politecnico Di Milano, Prof. Andrea Li Bassi.
